‘Tussar’ silk is also referred as ‘wild’ silk as it is obtaines from local trees. It is more textured, porous and breathable than other silks, hence it can be worn in the summers too. ‘Kosa’ is the Snaskrit name of Tussar. India is the main producer of Tussar silk. Producing Tussar is a rural art. Traditionally, the women of the tribal and rural areas were trained in weaving silk out of cocoons and weaving fabrics out of the threads.
