The master artisan who made this stunning collection is the 32nd generation in this craft. It dates back to the 12th century when the Khatri community migrated to Kutchh from Sind. The tiny white dots created by meticulously tying thousands of sections of the cloth create an illusion of stars in the night sky.
‘Bandhej’ is a type of tie-dye textile decorated by plucking the cloth with the fingernails into many tiny bindings that form a figurative design.
‘Ajrakh’ is a block-printed textile that is resist-dyed using natural dyes. including indigo and madder. It takes skill & patience to make Ajrakh. There are between 14-16 different stages of dyeing & printing, which take 14-21 days to complete. The resulting cloth is soft against the skin and jewel-like in appearance, pleasing to touch & appealing to the eye.
‘Modal’ is extracted from the fibre of a beechwood tree. Modal envelops the body in a touch of lightness, colours remain brilliant and strong and it is super soft.
Please remember – This product is handwoven and there might be slight weaving irregularities as they are part of the creation process. These add to the unique charm of this exquisite piece.
This is a hand block printed piece, minor colour smudges, spills are part of the creation process. We try to match the colours of the products in the photos to the real ones, but please allow for minor colour variations in the material in some cases, as sometimes the digital cameras miss the colours by a bit.
